Privacy Policy

How The Reneal Effect collects, uses and protects your personal information, in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). Last updated 19 August 2026.

01

Who we are

The Reneal Effect is a South African business practice providing business compliance, accounting, financial administration and funding-readiness support. In the language of the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), we are the responsible party for the personal information described on this page. Our Information Officer is Reneal Davids, who can be reached at reneal.davids@therenealeffect.co.za or on 061 146 9535.

02

What information we collect

We collect only what we need in order to do the work you ask us to do. That usually means your name, business name, email address, telephone or WhatsApp number, and details about your business such as its registration number, tax number, financial records and compliance status. Where you complete an assessment or enquiry form, we collect the answers you give us. When you visit this website we also collect limited technical information such as your device type, browser and general location, as described in section 04.

03

Why we collect it and on what basis

We use your information to respond to your enquiry, to prepare quotes, to carry out the compliance, accounting or funding-readiness work you have engaged us for, to submit filings to bodies such as the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC) or the South African Revenue Service (SARS) on your instruction, to invoice you, and to keep the records the law requires us to keep. We rely on your consent, on the performance of our agreement with you, and on our legal obligations as the grounds for processing. You may withdraw consent at any time, although this may mean we can no longer provide a service.

04

Cookies and website tracking

This website uses cookies and similar technologies. Some are necessary for the site to work. Others help us understand how the site is used and allow us to show relevant advertising. Specifically, we use the Meta Pixel (Facebook and Instagram) and Google Analytics. These tools may set cookies and share limited information with Meta Platforms and Google, including pages viewed and actions taken such as submitting an enquiry form. You can control cookies through the consent banner on this site and through your browser settings. Declining non-essential cookies will not stop you from using the site.

05

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for anyone else’s marketing. We share it only where it is necessary: with regulators and government bodies when we file on your behalf; with our service providers who host this website, send our email, process payments or store our records, each of whom is bound to protect it; and where the law requires us to disclose it. Some of these providers process information outside South Africa. Where that happens we satisfy ourselves that the information receives a level of protection comparable to that required by the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).

06

How long we keep it

We keep records for as long as we are working with you, and afterwards for the periods South African law requires. Company, accounting and tax records are generally retained for five years from the end of the relevant financial year, and longer where a specific law or an ongoing dispute requires it. Enquiry information from people who do not become clients is kept for up to two years and then deleted.

07

How we protect it

We use access controls, encrypted connections and reputable service providers, and we limit access to the people who need it to do the work. No system is perfectly secure, but if a breach occurs that creates a real risk to you, we will notify you and the Information Regulator as the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) requires.

08

Your rights

You have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you and to receive a copy of it; to have information corrected or deleted where it is inaccurate, irrelevant, excessive or no longer needed; to object to processing in certain circumstances; to withdraw consent; and to complain. To exercise any of these rights, email reneal.davids@therenealeffect.co.za. We will respond within a reasonable time and will not charge you for a straightforward request.

09

How to complain

If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your information, please tell us first so that we can put it right. You also have the right to complain directly to the Information Regulator of South Africa at inforegulator.org.za, by email to enquiries@inforegulator.org.za, on 010 023 5200, or on the toll-free line 0800 017 160.

10

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as our services or the law change. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last updated. Where a change materially affects how we use your information, we will tell you directly.

Questions about your information?

Ask us anything about what we hold, why we hold it, or how to have it removed. We will answer plainly.
